Victims Code
The JCPC works to put court users at the heart of everything it does.
Court users or victims who may be impacted by the content or judgment of JCPC hearings can find relevant detail and information on the JCPC website:
- If users believe a case will be heard at the JCPC which impacts them as a victim, they can sign up to the JCPC website to receive email alerts when a new case is added by the Court.
- Court listings information is published on the JCPC website as listings are finalised, so court users and victims can see when cases will take place.
- The court is open to the public, so if court users or victims wish to attend a hearing that may impact them, they can visit the court in London, UK and attend the hearing*. As the broad geographical spread of JCPC jurisdictions may limit physical attendance, court hearings are live streamed on our website, so court users or victims can watch the hearing without attending the court where this is more convenient or preferable*.
- If a court user or victim does wish to attend a hearing, and requires any reasonable adjustments, they can inform their solicitor or registry through our online enquiries form, and the court will work to ensure that reasonable adjustments are in place.
- All judgments are published online, so court users/victims can access this information as soon as the judgment is published.
*Exceptions to this would be hearings heard in private. Such hearings are very rare and only occur in exceptional circumstances for specific reasons, such as serious security issues or to protect the parties involved. Information about such restrictions would be included on the website.
